The Israel Club at Colgate University wants to celebrate the centuries of life-saving technologies that have been created by Israeli doctors, scientists and entrepreneurs.

Innovation: Africa highlights Israel’s technological achievements in the most productive way possible: by bringing Israeli innovations to rural villages in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, Uganda, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo that are in dire need. 



Meet Kwesi. He lives in Putti Village, Uganda. When the Innovation: Africa team first met him, his grades were poor, his uniform was dirty and his school tuition was not always paid.  Without light at home or in his school, and without money for candles or kerosene lamps, studying for exams and doing homework was nearly impossible after dark (Innovation: Africa Website).

Then Innovation: Africa installed solar technologies to provide his school with electricity and a solar powered water pump. Now Kwesi stays late at school each night to do his homework. He scored the highest in his class on his end of year exams. Even his uniform is new. His parents are farmers, and thanks to the year round irrigation provided by Innovation: Africa's water pump, they've been able to sell crops at the local market even during the dry season. They earned enough money to buy Kwesi a proper uniform, and to enroll their daughter, Afua, in school for the first time (Innovation: Africa Website).

Since their founding in 2008, Innovation: Africa has harnessed Israeli technology to bring light, clean water, drip irrigation and refrigeration for lifesaving medicines and vaccines to 675,000 people in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, Uganda, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Join the Israel Club, the Blue Diamond Society and other Colgate student organizations as they fundraise to make this world a brighter place. $5 provides a pair of shoes or a light bulb an orphan child, enabling them to run or read, $40 supplies him or her with food for an entire year and $150 gives him or her clean water for life.
